L’Atelier French Restaurant: Kota Kinabalu

Few days ago, we had an opportunity to dine at a restaurant specializing in French and Asian food. Our initial intention was to have simple drinks but then decided to try out something at the restaurant as it was our first time there.

The restaurant was quite empty probably due to the time we visited but the ambiance was quite comfortable and relaxing. We were served by the chef himself, Chef Kit, who introduced himself as well as his signature dishes.  According Chef Kit, he studied culinary in France with a famous chef. After graduation, and due to economy depression during that time, he returned to his homeland here, in Sabah to open his restaurant.

We ordered a plate of Ceasar Salad, a 9″ Hawaiian Pizza and a glass of Cold Latte.

Ceasar Salad was one of its kind and we meant in a positive way. It’s served with lettuce (of course), fully boiled eggs with fish roe as topping, bread crumbs, tomatoes and lastly, we believe, is a homemade salad dressing and it tasted very nice.

The Hawaiian Pizza was savoury and delicious. Generous amount of toppings include fresh pineapple cubes, mushrooms, sliced meat plus its crunchy crust makes the complete Pizza so nice to have.

One last thing we thought we must point out was that, from how the foods were presented, this Chef sure had put in lots of effort in his final products and he cares a lot for his customer’s feedback. We also needed to mention that he treated us an appetizer (we have no name for this, unfortunately) because it was our first time visiting his restaurant and we think that was nice and generous of him. The appetizer was made up of bread crumble, a mussel, salmon, fish roe and the homemade dressing we mentioned earlier.
